Did you know…all about water
..that 97% of all the water on earth is in the oceans? That we have better maps of our moon’s surface than we do for our ocean’s bottoms?
A few other notable statistics are:
The pacific holds 51.6% of the ocean water
The Atlantic holds 23.6%
The Indian Ocean 21.2%
All other seas amount to the remaining 3.6%
The average depth of the oceans is 2.4 miles
The Pacific ocean is 1000ft deeper on average
Over 60% of our planets surface is under water more than a mile deep
Of the 3% of earth’s water that is fresh, the vast majoriy exists as ice sheets.
.036% of the total water is found in lakes, rivers, etc..
.001% of the total water is vapor in the form of clouds.
Nearly 90% of the earth’s ice is in Antarctica
At the south pole you are standing on 2 miles of ice
At the north pole you are standing on 15 feet of ice
The Pacific ocean is a foot deeper on its western edge due to the centrifugal force of the earths rotation.
Lastly, the number ONE gas that contributes to the greenhouse effect is water vapor. Mid-point estimates are that water vapor accounts for 2/3 of all the greenhouse effect. So when people say that CO2 accounts for 2/3 of all greenhouse gases, what they fail to understand is that CO2 accounts for 2/3 of the remaining 1/3, or roughly 22% of the total. The big question is how much of that CO2 is generated by humans. Mother nature creates alot of CO2, mostly from biodegradation.
