More on the org chart front

Found a nice little wizard in Visio 2003 (not sure about previous versions) that will create an org chart from a text file. In a previous post, I mentioned the difficulties arising from trying to create an Org Chart portlet that can meet the demands of the office print-aholics. With the Visio option, I can serve the custom text files from within the Org Chart portlet, and simply link people to a tutorial on how it works.

This way, I can use a lightweight XML/XSL solution for the in-wrapper chart, and let the tree-killers create their own customized charts with up-to-date data.

Additional information on Visio’s Org chart wizard can be found here. It also includes instructions to run the wizard from a command line with parameters. I may experiment with a way to present users with both a customized data file, and a .BAT file to run everything without user input.
